You know those days where you sit down in church and the pastor starts speaking and you have to take a look around the room to see if anyone else is there, because it really feels like he’s talking to YOU? Yeah, so it was that kind of a day. I sat down and started listening and of course my prayer is, “Lord, please open (insert friend’s name)’s heart cause she/he really needs to hear this.” And then I realize that I need to pray that for myself.
Bill opened by stating Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” I sat back, looked over at my friend and we both simultaneously said, “crap.” But when you listen of course the Lord is not condemning, just encouraging and calling you to a deeper walk with Him. As Bill continued to speak he gave numerous examples of what it is to hunger and thirst. Something really interesting that he said was that we should not be avoiding the bad. But we need to be pursuing the good. If we continue to just avoid bad, there is no victory or satisfaction in that. But when we pursue what is good, we will be completely satisfied. It seems like a no brainer; but this concept is hard live out.
